Facebook testing ‘On This Day’ turn-back-the-clock feature
Want to know what your friends were doing exactly one year ago? A new Facebook feature has that answer.
The social media giant is testing out “On This Day,” a feature that shows users items they and their friends shared “from a year ago today,” according to a Facebook spokeswoman.
Mashable says the new feature is available to users who have the new News Feed design that Facebook introduced back in March. The feature can be accessed by clicking on the “On This Day” option in the list of filters on the right side of the page.
QUIZ: How much do you know about Facebook?
Below the list of filters there is also a widget that shows information about your friends from years past, such as when people were married and got new jobs, according to Mashable, which has a screenshot of the feature.
On This Day shows a banner at the top of the page using a post by one of your friends from a year ago. The posts show up in the feed the same way newer posts show up in the News Feed.
Facebook and other tech companies regularly test new features before introducing them to all users. The decision to formally roll it out depends on a variety of factors, such as whether or not the feature is received well.
