Actor Tobey Maguire seeks $3 million for micro-compound in Santa Monica
Actor-producer Tobey Maguire and his estranged wife, jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, have listed their artful compound in Santa Monica for sale at $2.995 million.
The three-house property centers on a 1920s home that was remodeled and expanded by architect Ruben Ojeda for a previous owner. As part of the renovation, Ojeda vaulted the ceilings while adding a second floor to what was originally a small bungalow.
A two-story studio designed by architectural firm Koning Eizenberg and a third structure currently used as a gym also reside on grounds filled with drought-tolerant plantings and palms.
Large picture windows, skylights and 22-foot ceilings lend a light and airy vibe to the 2,401-square-foot main house, which has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. A formal living room, an updated kitchen, a dining area and a den are among the common areas.
The property last changed hands a year ago for $2.675 million. Scott King of Compass holds the current listing.
Maguire, 41, has starred in such films as “The Great Gatsby” (2013) and “Seabiscuit” (2003) as well as three installments of the “Spider-Man” franchise. More recently, he appeared on the series “The Spoils of Babylon” and produced the film “The 5th Wave” (2016).
He and Meyer announced last month that they were separating after nine years of marriage.
Clipper scores new digs on the Westside
Los Angeles Clippers guard Austin Rivers, who inked a new three-year, $35.7-million deal with the team this summer, has put his newfound wealth to good use. He’s the buyer of a Pacific Palisades home that recently sold for $6.1 million.
The shingled traditional-style house was built this year by Huntington Estate Homes and offers some 7,400 square feet of living space with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Designed for indoor-outdoor entertaining, the multilevel home has pocketing glass walls, a rooftop deck and balconies centered on city to ocean views. A purple-clad home theater and a great room with a glass-enclosed wine wall highlight the lower-level lounge.
In the master suite, a two-way fireplace is shared by the bedroom and bathroom.
A swimming pool with a spa, an outdoor living room and a built-in barbecue lie within the grounds.
Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates was the listing agent. Mary Swanson of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage repped the buyer.
The 24-year-old Rivers is the son of Clippers coach Doc Rivers. He averaged a career-high 8.9 points per game last season, his first full year with Los Angeles.
High marks for her Valley Village sale
Professional dancer and choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba, who appears on the competition series “Dancing With the Stars” as a judge, has sold her Valley Village home of nearly a decade for $1.15 million.
Tucked behind tall hedges and gates, the 1940s house is surrounded by lush landscaping and mature trees. The 2,252 square feet of living space was recently updated and includes hardwood floors, decorative tile work and crown molding. Sets of French doors bring in views of tropical and drought-tolerant gardens.
Common areas include a formal dining room, an updated kitchen and an office/den. The master suite — one of three bedrooms and two bathrooms — includes a custom walk-in closet with its own dressing room.
Outdoors, mature trees top a paver patio and a detached guesthouse.
Sharon Rollins of Keller Williams Realty and Mark Williams of Signature Properties were the listing agents. Brett Hazard of Dilbeck Real Estate represented the buyer.
The 48-year-old Inaba has been on the reality dance contest show since 2005. She appeared in two of the “Austin Powers” films as well as on the series “In Living Color” from 1990 to 1992 as one of the Fly Girls.
Storied studio set for a change in genre
A new musician has landed on the mother ship. Hip-hop artist 2 Chainz was the buyer of a Hollywood Hills home and recording studio once owned by rock guitarist Steve Vai that recently sold for $2.45 million.
The three-story Mediterranean and its 1,400-square-foot studio, dubbed the Mothership Studio, was used by scores of musical talents during Vai’s decades of ownership. Ozzy Osbourne, Eddie Van Halen, the Yardbirds and Slash are among those who have recorded there.
After Vai sold the property last year for $1.5 million, the 3,400-square-foot home was renovated and put back up for sale in June for $2.5 million. Built in 1986, the house has living and family rooms, a den, an updated kitchen, three bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. Wide balconies run the length of the upper levels.
Entered through a separate entrance, the studio has a live room, a booth, a microphone room, a control room, a kitchen and a lounge.
Exterior features include a large brick patio with steps leading up to a raised deck. Views take in the surrounding canyon and city lights.
Jill Kaufman and Rusty Spragg of Keller Williams Realty were the listing agents. Michael Berlin of MBB Realty Advisors represented the buyer.
Vai, 56, got his start touring with Frank Zappa. His “No Substitutions — Live in Osaka” won a best pop instrumental album Grammy in 2001. He won rock instrumental performance Grammys for “Peaches in Regalia” in 2008 and “Sofa” in 1993.
2 Chainz, whose legal name is Tauheed Epps, has hits that include “Birthday Song” and “Duffle Bag Boy.” His third studio album, “ColleGrove,” was released in March.
