Century City penthouse tops L.A. priciest weekly sales at $22.5 million

A Westside condominium, a French-villa-inspired estate in Arcadia and the longtime Beverly Hills home of a poet-songwriter were among the most expensive residential real estate transactions in the greater Los Angeles area last week.

$22.5 million — Century City

At $22.5 million, a penthouse condominium that sold last week at the Century building at 1 Century Drive was one of the priciest deals historically for the Westside community.

Socialite and philanthropist Candy Spelling set the current high-water mark for the area in 2010 when she paid $35 million for the top two floors — a 15,555-square-foot residence with a private swimming pool — at the same high-rise.

Found two stories below Spellings’ unit, the full-floor penthouse has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and three powder rooms in 9,343 square feet of living space. Floor-to-ceiling walls of glass center on city and ocean views.

Public spaces include a living room with two fireplaces, a formal dining room with seating for 25, a media room and an eat-in kitchen. The master suite has a fireplace and city and ocean views.

Two covered parking spaces are included with the unit.

$12.9 million — Beverly Hills

In the 1100 block of Angelo Drive, the longtime home of late poet-songwriter-singer Rod McKuen sold after coming to market in March for $15 million.

McKuen, who died this year at 81, owned the Mediterranean-style mansion on close to an acre for 45 years. Among its features is a large record room with a 1970s-era recording studio, an atrium courtyard and a basement wine cellar.

Seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and seven fireplaces are within the 10,683 square feet of living space.

Charles Hallam of CAPRE was the listing agent. Stephen Resnick of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, represented the buyer.

$10,612,615 — Brentwood

A Spanish-style home on nearly half an acre in the 300 block of Bentel Avenue sold for about $400,000 less than the June list price — $10.995 million.

Built in 2007, the two-story home behind gates is highlighted by such details as an arcade entry, hand-painted tiles and leaded-glass windows.

Within the 7,860 square feet of space is a formal entry that opens to a formal dining room with wood-paneled ceilings and a step-down living room. Adjacent to the living room is a chef’s kitchen with a wide island/breakfast bar.

Six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms include a master suite complete with a fireplace, sitting area and covered porch. A temperature-controlled wine cellar and a sports court are among the amenities.

David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties repped both sides of the transaction.

$6.33 million — Arcadia

A French-villa-inspired home in the 300 block of Torrey Pines Drive changed hands for $650,000 less than the June list price and $1.25 million more than what it sold for in March 2014 — $5.08 million.

Designed by architect Robert Tong and completed in 2006, the 8,616-square-foot house is entered through 20-foot grand foyer with a curving wrought-iron staircase and Italian marble floors.

Two floors of living include formal living and dining rooms, a chef’s kitchen with a floating range hood, a subterranean wine cellar and a piano room. There are six bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms in all.

Rolling lawns, a large motor court and formal landscaping makeup grounds of about half an acre.

$5.7 million — Pacific Palisades

A newly built home in the 300 block of Bellino Drive sold for $205,000 more than the August list price — $5.495 million. Previously, the property on a nearly 10,000-square-foot lot sold two years ago for $1.27 million, public records show.

The contemporary-style house in the Castellamare neighborhood features raised ceilings with skylights, sliding walls of glass and 4,200 square feet of space on a single story.

Open-plan living areas include formal living and dining rooms, an office, five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. A modern kitchen sports custom cabinetry, an island, a breakfast bar and a glassed-in wine rack.

Exterior details include an outdoor living room and swimming pool and spa set in the backdrop of canyon, mountain and ocean views.

$5.275 million — Westlake Village

An Italian villa-inspired estate on more than an acre in the 1100 block of Oak Mirage Place sold after coming to market in May for about $6 million.

Set at the end of a cul-de-sac, the property centers on a two-story, 11,406-square-foot main house with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. Formal gardens, rolling lawns, a pool/guest house and a swimming pool and spa make up the sprawling grounds.

Interiors featuring distressed wood-beamed ceilings and marble floors include a two-story foyer, formal living and dining rooms and a family room and wet bar finished in copper accents. Two walk-in closets, a dual-sided fireplace and a sauna highlight the master suite.

$5.25 million — Hollywood Hills West

In the 1600 block of Woods Drive, a Spanish-style home on a double lot sold for $1 million less than the January list price.

Built in 2001 and remodeled last year, the 6,687-square-foot house features a formal entry with an elevator, a rotunda dining room, a media room and a chef’s kitchen that opens to a terrace patio.

Four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms include a master suite with two private terraces, a fireplace and his-and-hers walk-in closets.

A swimming pool and spa sit above a five-car garage.
