Skrillex lands a $6-million spot in Malibu where he can break ground
Skrillex, the Grammy-winning electronic music artist and DJ, has spent $6 million on a new spot in Malibu — and by spot, we mean a vacant lot.
That’s the high cost of living in Westside areas such as Malibu, particularly when it comes to sizable estates in upscale communities. The roughly 1.1-acre plot is behind gates in an 80-acre, luxury planned development, where finished home prices often exceed $15 million.
Skrillex’s plot is among 13 properties that occupy an oceanfront bluff with unobstructed views of the Pacific. The lot includes approved plans for a flat-roofed, Doug Burdge-designed modern residence of more than 12,000 square feet.
The planned centerpiece of the estate, a 160-foot infinity-edge swimming pool, will stretch nearly the length of the grounds, which includes more than 200 feet of frontage.
The lot was most recently listed for sale at $7 million or completed at $18.9 million, records show.
The 28-year-old Skrillex, whose legal name is Sonny Moore, has won eight Grammys, including awards for the extended-play records “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” and “Bangarang.” His debut album as part of the DJ duo Jack Ü, with fellow artist Diplo, was released last year and also garnered a pair of Grammy Awards.
