NFL free agent Ryan Pickett asks $7.5 million for Poway home

Free agent defensive lineman Ryan Pickett, who spent the last eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, has listed a Poway estate previously owned by former baseball player Jeromy Burnitz for sale at $7.499 million.

The Mediterranean-style estate sits behind a gated entrance on 3.5 acres in the Heritage Estates community. Carriage doors and stone accents add a rustic ambience to the residence, which was built by Greg Agee Homes in 2004.

Flush in stone and wood, the house features arched doorways, beamed ceilings and wrought-iron finishes. The 14,902 square feet of living space includes a formal dining room, a gourmet kitchen, a game room, a hair salon, a gym with a sauna/steam room, a theater room and a wine cellar.

The master suite comes complete with a fireplace, a large walk-in closet and a spa-like bath with a soaking tub. A detached guesthouse has an additional bedroom suite, a kitchenette and a living.

In a nod to Pickett’s alma mater, a basketball half-court is emblazoned with the Ohio State Buckeyes logo and colors. A clay tennis court, a pool with a water slide and waterfalls, an outdoor pavilion and an eight-car garage also occupy the park-like grounds.

Pickett, 34, was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 2001 draft and won a Super Bowl with the team that year. The stout defensive tackle added a second Lombardi Trophy to the mantel in 2010 while with the Packers.

In a deal between sports stars, property records show that Pickett purchased the estate from Burnitz, the former Major League Baseball outfielder, in May 2010 for $3.5 million. Burnitz, a native of Westminster, paid $1.1 million for the property in May 2000.
