Volley for sale? A Brentwood home where tennis great John McEnroe once trained is in play for $5.482 million.

The roughly half-acre estate features a lighted and hedged tennis court that McEnroe used while training for one of his comebacks in the 1980s. Matches pitting the former World No. 1 player against the great Jimmy Connors, among others, often would play out on the court.

Later on, women’s tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams both took lessons from McEnroe’s longtime coach, Paul Cohen, on the property — often with McEnroe and Pete Sampras looking on. An 8-year-old Venus even hit balls with the two male tennis champions from time to time, according to the book “Venus Williams” by Michael Bradley.

Now for sale, the 1948 Traditional has hardwood floors, vaulted and beamed ceilings and a great room with a fireplace. A total of five bedrooms and four bathrooms are within more than 3,100 square feet of living space.

Accompanying the tennis court on the Sid Galper-designed grounds is a swimming pool and waterfall surrounded in brick. A separate office/studio, a built-in barbecue, sprawling lawns and landscaping fill the classic setting.

A circular driveway sits off the entrance to the home.
