Passenger on US Airways Express flight did not have TB, tests show
After further tests, health officials determined Tuesday that a passenger who was pulled from a US Airways Express plane in Phoenix does not have tuberculosis.
Based on reports that the passenger had the contagious airborne disease, the unnamed man was pulled from a US Airways Express flight Saturday by security officials who warned other passengers to get tested for TB.
Flight 2846, carrying more than 70 people, landed at Sky Harbor International Airport from Austin, Texas, just before 5 p.m. Saturday. The man was escorted off the plane by paramedics and police officers.
The passenger had been cleared to fly but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added him to a “no board” list after the plane took off from Austin.
But the Maricopa County Public Health issued a tweet Tuesday, saying that tests on the passenger were negative for tuberculosis and that he has been cleared to fly again.
“No TB risks for other passengers,” the agency said in its tweet.
The CDC collects information about contagious diseases from county health agencies and notifies the Transportation Security Administration to keep those infected passengers off of planes. The CDC could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
