Closed Costco gas stations to reopen by noon Saturday
Six of the 15 Southern California Costco gasoline stations that shut their gas pumps this week during a record-breaking run-up in wholesale fuel prices are again open for business, said Jeff Cole, vice president of gasoline for the company in the U.S.
Another was reopening at 6 p.m., Cole said.
The remaining eight Costco gas stations that closed are scheduled to reopen by noon Saturday, Cole added.
The stations closed as wholesale prices for California gasoline climbed to a record-setting $4.39 a gallon this week.
The sharp increase left retail gasoline prices at the pump on the verge of a new record high. On Friday, the average retail price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California was $4.486, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
That broke the old record for October 5 -- set last year -- by 35.1 cents.
The all-time record average price for California gasoline is $4.610 a gallon, set in June 2008. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $4.930 today.
The Costco gas stations that have already reopened are in Fullerton on South Harbor Blvd., in Inglewood on West Century Blvd., in Irvine on Technology Drive, Pacoima on West Paxton Street, Simi Valley on Park Center Drive, and Tustin on Park Avenue.
Set to open again at 6 p.m. tonight was Costco’s Montclair gas station on Central Avenue.
For a listing of the stations that will reopen by noon tomorrow, Cole said customers can call (800) 774-2678 or visit Costco’s website.
