Samsung takes pre-orders for Ultra HD TV in Korea priced at $38,000

Samsung debuted its 85-inch Ultra HD television set at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show, and now the company has begun taking pre-orders for the TV in South Korea.

The price is 40 million Korean won, which is just under $38,000.

Ultra HD, also known as 4K, is one of TV’s next-generation technologies. Ultra HD sets have four times the resolution as that of 1080p HD TVs. The new technology is supposed to offer a more crystal-clear image, particularly with TV sets larger than 60 inches.

Although the Samsung model isn’t the first Ultra HD TV to come out, it does have one of the highest price tags so far. Last year, LG and Sony began selling their 84-inch models in the U.S. for $20,000 and $25,000, respectively.

For now, there are no details on when the Samsung Ultra HD TV will make its way to the U.S. or how much it’ll cost, according to Engadget.

Besides the 85-inch model, Samsung also displayed 95- and 110-inch Ultra HD TVs at CES, so expect some even higher prices later this year.
