Toys R Us unveils $150 kids tablet with parental controls
Toys R Us said it will begin selling a tablet designed for kids that will feature extensive parental controls, 50 preloaded apps and games and a cheaper price than other tablets.
The $150 Tabeo is the company’s first Wi-Fi enabled tablet.
It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the second-most recent version of Google’s operating system, and it features a 7-inch, 800-by-480-pixel display.
The tablet has a 1-gigahertz ARM Cortex A8 processor and 1 gigabyte of RAM. The Tabeo has 4 GB of storage that can be expanded to 32GB through a Micro SD card slot. It also includes a Mini-HDMI port and comes with a front-facing camera.
Among the games included with the purchase are “Angry Birds,” “Fruit Ninja,” “Cut the Rope” and “Temple Run.” A total of 20 games come preloaded as do 10 educational apps, about a dozen entertainment apps and a couple of book apps as well.
The tablet allows parental controls for up to eight different users. Parents can set the Tabeo to block 27 different categories of content and can block websites as well. The Tabeo also lets parents set what days and times their children can access the Web.
The Tabeo is available for pre-order now and will be sold exclusive from Toys R Us stores beginning Oct. 21.
