Ebay unwraps new website design, same-day delivery app

Following the new logo it announced last month, Ebay showed off a redesigned website and introduced a new app that will let users order and receive items on the same day.

The online shopping site, which has been shifting away from auctions and focusing on instant purchases, said it will roll out the new design in the coming weeks. The redesign gives Ebay’s website a cleaner and more contemporary look, it said.

You can check out screenshots of the new design here, and you’ll notice the new Ebay looks a lot like Pinterest with items laid out over multiple columns and in images of varying sizes.

The new Ebay site will also focus on giving users more personalized service.

“Search results and recommendations are no longer enough,” said Ebay President Devin Wenig. “Consumers want insight. And they want personal, curated selection that is relevant to them, controlled by them.”

For mobile devices, the company announced Ebay Now, an app that is available today for download from iTunes.

Ebay Now is the company’s first foray into same-day delivery online shopping, and according to its app description, the service is available for thousands of items.

“Just find what you want, click “Bring It,” and an EBay Now shopping valet does the rest,” the app description says.

To start, the service will only work for users in San Francisco, but Ebay says other markets will become available soon.

By entering the same-day delivery market, Ebay is taking on Amazon, which already provides the service on a limited basis, as well as Wal-Mart, which announced this week it is testing a similar service.

Additionally, Ebay said its new logo announced last month will go live on its website today.
