After iPhone 5 fever, iPad mini likely to be announced soon
If you are dying to know more about the long rumored iPad mini, you may not have much longer to wait.
The latest Apple rumor flying around the Internet says that Apple will send out press invites on October 10 to an iPad mini unveiling, according to a report in Fortune.
If the rumor is true, and Apple follows its traditional course of announcing and then releasing a new piece of technology, that means the actual unveiling event will be held a week later, and the iPad mini will be available somewhere around Oct. 22.
Just think: In three weeks you could have your hands on a device that is bigger than an iPhone and smaller than an iPad.
The media invite date was provided by an anonymous “big investor” in the company, who said he heard it from several sources.
While the iPad mini has not inspired as robust a rumor mill as the iPhone 5 did before it’s release, we do have some rumored clues about what the device might look and feel like.
As previously reported, the iPad mini is expected to have a 7.85-inch screen, making it just a bit bigger than the Kindle Fire HD and the Google Nexus 7 tablets. It is also expected to look more like an iPhone than the iPad -- with wide top and bottom bezels, but a thin bezel on the right and left. That way, the device would be smaller and easier to fit into a purse or pocket.
It is also expected to be just 7.2 millimeters thick, like the iPod touch.
9 to 5 Mac speculates that the iPad mini will be $200, matching the Nexus 7.
It looks like we may find out soon.
