Internet Explorer 10 ad claims Microsoft’s browser stinks...less

Microsoft takes aim at Internet Explorer haters with a new ad that pokes fun at people who proclaim their disdain for the browser on message boards, Twitter and Facebook.

In the ad, titled “Do you know this guy?” our young, white, male villain sits like a smug king in front of two computer monitors, sipping from a mug that reads “I [trash] IE.”

He is infuriated by each positive review of IE10 that he finds online, writing “IE SUCKS” and “You’re not impressing me” and “Idiots” in the comment sections of popular websites.

But then, after an exchange with IE’s Twitter feed, he learns that IE has introduced a new Karaoke Web standard. The camera pans to a certificate pronouncing our villain a Karaoke grand master in 2008.

Quiz: What set the Internet on fire in 2012?

At last, our villain is bested. “IE sucks....less,” he writes.

The screen flashes to the word “Progress.” And then some more words slide in: “Comebacks come in many shapes and sizes.”

The advertisement is the latest from Microsoft’s “Browser you love(d) to hate” campaign that takes a self-deprecating look at Internet Explorer’s reputation.

The campaign launched in March of this year. Of course it has the requisite website that continues the theme. Tab options on the site include “curious” and “It’s Good Now” and “No, Really.”

I think it’s a pretty smart way to get people interested in a long vilified Web browser.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
