New Yorkers shrug off Sandy to wait in line for new iPad mini
Sandy might have disrupted most of New York City, but it can’t stop the Big Apple’s Apple faithful.
Despite the lingering effects of the super storm, hundreds of customers lined up outside the 5th Avenue Apple Store early Friday to purchase the company’s latest device, the iPad mini, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The report says the line for the iPad mini at the flagship Apple store wasn’t as long as the one in September for the iPhone 5, but was still impressive under the circumstances.
However, unlike previous Apple openings, which usually begin at 8 a.m., the 5th Avenue Apple Store pushed back its launch of the new device to 10 a.m. -- meaning Sandy may have had some impact, if just a little one.
According to the report, the storm actually spurred some people to go out and wait in line. One person said her home’s lack of electricity and heat has made it difficult to sleep. So she figured it would be better to go wait in line than struggle to sleep.
The iPad mini launches Friday around the U.S. and in many other countries worldwide.
It features a 7.9-inch screen and starts at $329 for a 16 GB model.
