Apple Retina display said to be heading to MacBook Air and iMac

Apple is expected next month to launch new MacBook Pros featuring the Retina display made famous by its iPhone and iPad, but it seems the tech giant isn’t content with stopping there.

The Cupertino, Calif., company is also working on bringing the Retina display to its Macbook Air and iMac lines, according to a report by 9 to 5 Mac.

The Retina display will come to both the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch versions of the Air, the report said. The Air will also receive new Intel Ivy Bridge processors, improved graphics engines and improved battery technology to support the new displays, 9 to 5 Mac reported.

But because fitting all of those items into the tiny MacBook Air will be a difficult task, the “timeframe is unrealistic to pinpoint,” the report said.

Along with the MacBook Air, Apple is also expected to add its Retina display to the iMac. Sources told 9 to 5 Mac that iMacs with the improved display have been spotted, but like the MacBook Airs, no release date has been set.

So for now, do not expect these two higher-resolution Macs making their way into next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
