Apple to move production of Mac mini to the U.S., report says

Apple will produce its Mac mini computers in the U.S. next year, according to a report.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook told NBC’s Brian Williams this month that one of the company’s computers would be produced in the U.S. next year. That fueled speculation that Apple would move its Mac Pro production to the U.S.

Some media reports speculated that Cook was referring to the Mac Pro in part because it produces fewer of them compared with other lines of computers.

But now Digitimes is reporting that rather than the Mac Pro, it’s the Mac mini that will be coming to the U.S.

Handling that production will be Foxconn, a key Apple supplier, which already has a number of manufacturing facilities in the U.S., according to Digitimes, a Taiwan-based newspaper that covers the technology industry in Asia. Digitimes, however, has been criticized for getting some Apple rumors wrong.

Regardless, we’ll find out soon enough which Mac moves to the U.S. once we see start seeing “Assembled in USA” labels on Apple hardware.
