Meet Florence Detlor, the oldest person on Facebook
Cheers to Florence Detlor, who at 101 was recently revealed as Facebook’s oldest user.
On Monday, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, posted a photo of herself, Mark Zuckerberg, and Detlor smiling cheerfully in the company’s offices on her Facebook page.
“Honored to meet Florence Detlor, who at 101 years old is the oldest registered Facebook user. Thank you for visiting us Florence! — with Mark Zuckerberg.” Sandberg wrote in a note accompanying the photo.
The fuzzy picture was liked by 7,000 people.
“I hope Ms. Detlor sees this photo so she can tag herself in it,” wrote Tom Stocky in a comment.
Detlor appears to be pretty chipper -- and technologically savvy -- for being just over 100 years old. A few of her past profile photos have the distinctive look of being taken with a computer camera, and she has amassed more than 600 friends since she joined Facebook in August 2009.
Her Facebook page reveals that she graduated from Occidental College in 1932, and that she is looking for a good book to read. (Aren’t we all?)
She doesn’t update her page frequently, but on July 25 she noted “Another day ... and the sun shines,” which we think speaks to a pretty good attitude.
Three days later, she wondered if garage sales were a good way to shop.
Detlor didn’t travel far to get to the Facebook offices. According to her profile she also resides in Menlo Park.
