First glimpse of Disneyland riverfront post-Star Wars Land

Over the weekend, Disneyland began to close several attractions and eateries to make way for the park’s biggest expansion project: the new Star Wars Land.

To pique the interest of Disney fans, the resort released an artist depiction of the waterfront area in Frontierland after construction for the 14-acre Star Wars Land is completed.

The depiction shows the north bank of the Rivers of America and the elevated trestles that will carry the Disneyland Railroad. But the rendering does not show what hard-core Star Wars fans really want to see: The attractions at the new Star Wars Land, to be built in the area north of the waterway.

Disneyland has yet to say when the Star Wars Land will open.

To make way for the expansion, the park is permanently closing Big Thunder Ranch, Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree.

Nearby attractions on the Rivers of America will close temporarily, including Fantasmic, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, the Disneyland Railroad and the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes.

Once the Disneyland Railroad closes, the park will allow guests to get up-close to the historic steam engines of the railroad at the Main Street and New Orleans Square train stations.
