Downtown: Slotzilla, Golden Nugget, Rock of Vegas concert

SlotZilla is back!

The famed zip line, which went on hiatus last year for a remodel, lets ticket holders take off from a 128-foot, 12-story slot- machine-themed platform to soar directly below the Viva Vision canopy on one of two levels.

Visitors have two options — to fly 70 feet above the ground on the zip line ride or take it to the next level on the zoom line ride 110 feet above Fremont Street.

In true Vegas form, every time a rider leaves, the giant slot machine’s arm will pull down, the reels will spin and a beacon will light up.

Golden Nugget

There’s plenty going on at the Golden Nugget this summer. Two new restaurants are opening. The highly anticipated Cadillac Mexican Cantina and Tequila Bar will offer a massive tequila selection as well as Mexican favorites such as carnitas Guadalajara and relleno de camarones. Also new is a 24-hour Claim Jumper serving breakfast, lunch and dinner all day.

Beginning in August, the Golden Nugget will also host a fantastic lineup of rock bands, incluidng Smashmouth, Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker, Blues Traveler and Lynyrd Skynyrd in an intimate 1,200-person venue. For information and booking, click on the “shows” tab at www.goldennugget.com/lasvegas.

Rock of Vegas

“Rock of Vegas” is undoubtedly one of the most popular summertime events in Downtown Las Vegas. The concert series features four months of nightly entertainment, free headliner concerts and Viva Vision shows, which opened with pop duo Karmin in May.

“There’s no better way to celebrate the official start of summer this Memorial Day weekend than listening to a great artist underneath the neon lights of the Viva Vision canopy,” said Jeff Victor, president of Fremont Street Experience.

Other acts scheduled to take the stage this season include Everclear, Soul Asylum, Eve 6 and Spacehog.
