‘A Child’s First Book of Trump’: a Donald Trump primer by Michael Ian Black

Curious George. Paddington Bear. Horton the Elephant. And now -- Donald J. Trump.

The front-running Republican presidential candidate is now the subject of an upcoming children’s book, thanks to comedian Michael Ian Black, Publishers Weekly reports.

Black, best known for his roles in “The State” and “Wet Hot American Summer,” will release “A Child’s First Book of Trump,” illustrated by Marc Rosenthal, this summer. The book will be published by Simon & Schuster.

In a news release, the liberal comedian says he’s writing the book as a service. “This new book will help children of all ages learn to identify a Trump and what to do if they should ever come across one in the wild,” he said.

The Trump in Black’s book is a short, orange creature with its lips pressed together in a scowl. Its hair bears a striking resemblance to that of the real estate developer who shares his name. Black describes the character in an excerpt from the book:

The beasty is called an American Trump.
Its skin is bright orange, its figure is plump.
Its fur so complex you might get enveloped.
Its hands though are, sadly, underdeveloped.

The Amazon description of the book hints that Black’s take on Trump might be less than charitable. “Could he actually be real?” it asks. “Are those ... words coming out of his mouth? Why are his hands so tiny? And perhaps most importantly, what on earth do you do when you encounter an American Trump?”

To that question, Black has some suggestions:

So what should you do with a Trump running wild?
The answer is all up to you, my dear child.
Run away screaming? Or maybe you fight it?
Reason and logic will only incite it.

“A Child’s First Book of Trump” is perhaps the most child-friendly of the oddball books that have come out in recent months about the candidate. It’s definitely a better pick for your kid than, say, “Trump Temptations: The Billionaire & The Bellboy,” an erotica novel about the Donald from Los Angeles comedian Elijah Daniel.

This isn’t the first time Black has taken on politics in a book. In 2012, he cowrote “America, You Sexy Bitch: A Love Letter to Freedom” with conservative author Meghan McCain (the daughter of Arizona Sen. John McCain).

Black is also a prolific author of children’s books, including “Chicken Cheeks,” “Naked!” and “A Pig Parade Is a Terrible Idea.”

“A Child’s First Book of Trump” will be published July 12, just six days before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Perhaps Black will publish a second book explaining to kids how a brokered convention works.
