Meet Christian Grey (probably): Jamie Dornan
Everybody’s favorite lovingly sadistic billionaire heartthrob has been cast: Jamie Dornan will play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Dornan, as fans of the book know, isn’t the first Christian Grey. The casting of Charlie Hunnam, best known for his role in “Sons of Anarchy,” was announced in early September. Hunnam withdrew from the part less than two weeks ago, either due to scheduling conflicts or because he was spooked by the deluge of attention coming his way.
That left filmmakers little time to secure a new Christian Grey -- the movie is scheduled to begin shooting in November. Dornan had been rumored to be on the shortlist before.
Like Hunnam, Dornan is a Brit best known to American audiences for a television role. He plays the Huntsman/Sheriff Graham on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time.” Dornan, 31, is also a former Calvin Klein model.
Author E.L. James tweeted the news on Thursday. Reaction -- at least on Twitter -- is predominantly positive. James’ tweet has gotten more than 7,000 retweets, 4,000 favorites, and responses like “indeed! To be honest I like him more. :D”
The film adaptation of James’ bestseller is slated for release in the summer of 2014.
