Are you there, Judy Blume? It’s a careless husband who accidentally gave away his wife’s beloved copy of one of your books.

Residents of the Greenpoint neighborhood in Brooklyn noticed some unusual fliers posted in their neighborhood over the past few days, featuring an image of an old cover of Blume’s young adult novel “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.”

“LOST BOOK!!!!!!!!” the flier reads. “I accidentally gave this book away on Saturday July 25th in a box on the corner of Green & Franklin. This book is extremely important to my wife. It was a keepsake from her mother and is irreplaceable. On the inside cover is a note that reads ‘Christmas 1991.’ If you happened to pick up this book can you please get in touch with me.”

The man, who clearly didn’t know the extent to which people treasure Blume’s books, apparently put the book in a box of items to give away after cleaning the couple’s apartment.

Blume got wind of the man’s predicament and offered her help to the man over Twitter. “Oh no tragic!” she tweeted. “Will send signed copy. Not the same, I know. Let’s hope it saves the marriage. Not sure I can find that cover but will try.”

Hours later, a man who appears to be the husband in question responded to Blume: “I’m the terrible husband!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart...marriage saved!!!”

The original book hasn’t turned up, but it seems the man has learned at least one valuable lesson. The biography on his Twitter profile reads: “don’t ever clean the apartment.”
