Disney CEO Bob Iger gets a book deal
Bob Iger, whose tenure as chairman and chief executive of Walt Disney Co. has been marked by a string of high-profile acquisitions, will write a book about leadership for Random House, the publisher announced Monday.
In a news release, Random House said Iger’s book will explore “the ideas, values, and growth strategies he has developed in his eleven years as CEO of Disney, the world’s largest media company.”
Iger became CEO of Disney in 2005, taking over from longtime chief Michael Eisner. Iger had previously served as president and chief operating officer of Disney.
Iger is credited with a series of headline-grabbing acquisitions by Disney over the last decade, including Pixar in 2006, Marvel Entertainment in 2009 and Lucasfilm in 2012. The purchase of Lucasfilm resulted in the production of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the 2015 movie that was a massive box-office hit.
“It takes a very different kind of leadership to manage a global brand in such a dynamic marketplace, and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with readers,” Iger said in a news release. “The experience of managing a company whose primary business is storytelling is a story unto itself.”
Iger’s book deal comes toward the end of a busy year for the millionaire businessman. In June, he attended the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort, a 963-acre development in mainland China.
And in July, Iger joined the board of directors of the group campaigning to bring the 2024 Summer Olympics to Los Angeles. The city is competing with Paris, Rome and Budapest, Hungary, to host the event.
There’s no release date yet for Iger’s as-yet untitled book.
