Fantasia is seeing ‘Purple’

It’s about time we got to talk about: Fantasia

It’s been almost six years since she won “American Idol,” and for whatever unjust reason, the 25-year-old single mom hasn’t blown up like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. With any luck that will change. She’s got an album planned for spring, her VH1 series “Fantasia for Real” is super addicting -- anyone want to help me shake her family hard? -- and starting this week, Angelenos can see her as abused heroine Celie in Oprah Winfrey’s stage musical “The Color Purple” at the Pantages. The show runs through the end of the month. (Wednesday)

Can’t stop talking about: “Teen Mom”

Just when you thought you had shed your last tears for Tyler and Catelynn -- or smacked your head for the final time watching Maci talk to Ryan -- MTV is giving us a second post-finale “Teen Mom” special. Deep breath. “Unseen Moments” teases behind-the-scene footage from the season past. As long as it’s not more of Farrah’s scary mom, bring it on. (Tuesday)

It’s a love smackdown. Talk about: “The Wolfman” vs. “Valentine’s Day”

Oh, sure, you could see the star-spangled lineup of “Valentine’s Day.” If you’re boring. But consider the alternative: A sure-to-be-less-crowded theater with Benicio del Toro as a lovelorn (hello, Emily Blunt!) Welshman who doesn’t know that he’s been ripping the villagers to shreds when the full moon comes around. (Friday)

Or you could talk about: “One Life Stand”

Hot Chip moved out of lead singer-frontman Alexis Taylor’s bedroom to record the band’s latest album, but somehow the result is less loud and more sentimental. Did I mention he also counts Susan Boyle as an influence this time around? Hey, ‘tis the season. (Tuesday)

I’ll be busy talking about: “Emma”

We haven’t had an adaptation of “Emma” in more than a dozen years; “Clueless” remains tough to top. But PBS’ latest, a four-part miniseries starring Romola Garai as the willful and wrongheaded matchmaker and Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley, is simply splendid. If you missed it last month, the DVD’s out this week. (Tuesday)
