CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / REDONDO BEACH
Authorities recovered more than 100 illegal fireworks Wednesday and arrested two people while serving search warrants at homes in Redondo Beach and Torrance.
Brian Joseph Flanigan, 40, of Torrance and Patrick Anthony German, 39, of Redondo Beach were arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of explosives, said Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Flanigan, who was arrested Tuesday night, was being held in lieu of $2-million bail, and German, arrested about 2 a.m. today, was being held on $200,000 bail.
More than 100 fireworks with a combined street value of $150,000 were recovered from the two homes, Keenan said. Most of the fireworks were allegedly in Flanigan’s home. Weapons also were recovered, Keenan said, but he did not know how many or what type.
The investigation began Tuesday afternoon when Redondo Beach police received an anonymous tip that fireworks were being sold out of a Torrance home at Beech Avenue and Sonoma Street, police said. Surveillance led investigators to determine fireworks were being sold, and they obtained a search warrant.
