CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / LOS ANGELES COUNTY
A key panel has recommended that the county offer a $1.1-million settlement to three high-level managers who were allegedly pushed out of their jobs under former Registrar-Recorder Conny McCormack.
The three plaintiffs -- Chief Deputy Kristin Heffron, Assistant Registrar-Recorder Alvarez Lecesne and his wife, management services head Desnee Lecesne -- alleged that they were wrongfully terminated. According to their 2007 lawsuit, they were demoted for complaining about race and age discrimination and in essence forced to retire.
Senior Assistant County Counsel John F. Krattli, a member of the county claims board, said the three-member panel voted unanimously to settle the case for $1.1 million after interviewing department staffers and meeting with attorneys for the plaintiffs. County supervisors are set to vote on the settlement April 14.
