Cleveland 106, at Chicago 97: LeBron James scored 41 points against the Bulls for the second time in four days, and the Cavaliers hung on to win. James was at it again after a big performance in a 14-point win over Chicago at Cleveland on Wednesday night. This time, he scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to start a 15-0 run as the Cavaliers turned a three-point deficit into an 89-77 lead. And he made two key three-point baskets after Chicago cut it to two in the closing minutes. It was a bad night all the way around for the Bulls, who learned that guard Kirk Hinrich will miss up to three months because of a thumb injury.
at Orlando 106, Washington 81: Dwight Howard scored a season-high 31 points, had 16 rebounds and also blocked three shots to help the Magic win its fourth straight game and keep the Wizards winless to start the season. Mickael Pietrus scored 18 points, and Keith Bogans had 13 for Orlando (4-2). Former USC guard Nick Young scored 20 points for the Wizards (0-5), the only team in the Eastern Conference without a victory this season.
at New Orleans 100, Miami 89: Chris Paul had 21 points and 13 assists for his sixth straight double-double to help the Hornets end a two-game losing streak. Paul set an NBA record for consecutive games at the start of a season with at least 20 points and 10 assists, breaking the mark set by Oscar Robertson in 1968. David West scored 21 points for New Orleans. Dwyane Wade led the Heat with 30 points.
at Indiana 98, New Jersey 80: Danny Granger scored 23 points for the Pacers and T.J. Ford nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Vince Carter scored 31 points for New Jersey, but Devin Harris, who scored 38 points Friday in a win at Detroit, missed the game because of a sprained left ankle.
at Portland 97, Minnesota 93: LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Brandon Roy added 24 points and nine assists and the Trail Blazers rallied to improve to 3-0 at home. Al Jefferson scored 27 points for the Timberwolves.
Phoenix 104, at Milwaukee 96: Shaquille O’Neal and Amare Stoudemire combined for 53 points as the Suns improved their record to 5-2 this season.
