Re “Metrolink leaders rarely ride the rails, Nov. 4

This article is surely one of the silliest in recent memory. Is the implication that board members should take a Metrolink ride as part of their daily commute, no matter where they live? Or that we should appoint board members based on their commute, rather than their knowledge and management skills? Should the managers of UPS also work as truck drivers? It wouldn’t hurt for the board members to take an occasional train ride. But reports from staff members are an efficient way of collecting information for making management decisions. It is hard to discern the point of the story -- other than to make board members look like dilettantes.
