Texas A&M; records a landmark victory

Even with star Danielle Gant out for the second half, Texas A&M; had enough to advance to its first regional finals.

Patrice Reado scored all 17 of her points in the second half and Texas A&M; overcame the loss of Gant to beat Duke, 77-63, on Sunday night at Oklahoma City.

Takia Starks added 15 points for second-seeded Texas A&M; (29-7), which extended its winning streak to 12 games.

Third-seeded Duke (25-10) committed 19 turnovers and never managed to get into offensive rhythm against a team that led the Big 12 Conference in scoring defense.

The Aggies won even though Gant, their second-leading scorer, did not play in the second half because of dehydration.

Rutgers 53, George Washington 42 -- Essence Carson scored 25 points at Greensboro, N.C., to help send the Scarlet Knights to Tuesday’s Greensboro Regional championship game for a third meeting with Big East Conference rival Connecticut.

Epiphanny Prince added 12 points for second-seeded Rutgers (27-6). Jessica Adair scored 16 points to lead the sixth-seeded Colonials (27-7).

Connecticut 78, Old Dominion 63 -- Maya Moore had 25 points and 11 rebounds at Greensboro, N.C., in her second straight 20-point postseason performance.

Renee Montgomery added 13 points for the Huskies (35-1), who never trailed, shot 47.5% and put the game away with a 20-1 run early in the second half. Tiffany Green had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Old Dominion (31-5).

Tennessee 74, Notre Dame 64 -- Candace Parker matched her career best with 34 points and hauled in 12 rebounds at Oklahoma City, pushing the top-seeded Lady Vols to the regional finals for the eighth straight year.

Parker put back Nicky Anosike’s miss and then converted a three-point play off a transition jumper to send Tennessee (33-2) into the lead with a 14-0 run early in the second half, and the Lady Vols never looked back on their way to defeating Notre Dame (25-9) and advancing to the round of eight for the 23rd time.
