UCLA drowning being investigated
UCLA police are investigating the apparent accidental drowning of a 21-year-old student in a campus swimming pool last week.
The student was identified as Elias Ibrahim, a biology major from Moreno Valley who was scheduled to graduate this year.
He and two other students in a UCLA Extension class apparently got into the locked pool at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center early Friday, according to UCLA police spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.
Officials said the three climbed over a fence and pulled back part of the pool tarp for a 2 a.m. swim.
Among other things, police are investigating whether the three had been drinking alcohol.
No charges have been filed, Greenstein said.
