26 arrested, fake goods seized
Police arrested 26 people in a raid on vendors in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday that also netted thousands of pirated DVDs, CDs and items of clothing.
The raid on vendors in Santee Alley in the city’s Fashion District, conducted by Los Angeles police, sheriff’s deputies and other agencies, was part of the city’s Anti-Piracy Task Force, formed in February.
The sale of pirated merchandise cost county businesses some $5.2 billion in lost revenue in 2005, according to an estimate by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation.
Task force officials will hold a news conference today to discuss the raid and its other anti-piracy efforts.
