30-, 15-year mortgage rates down
Rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.1% this week, mortgage company Freddie Mac said. That was down from 6.2% last week and at the lowest level since the week ended Oct. 13, 2005, when rates averaged 6.03%.
Fifteen-year fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, slid to 5.73% from 5.83% last week. For five-year adjustable-rate mortgages, rates edged down to 5.86% from 5.88% last week. One-year adjustable-rate mortgages edged up to 5.43% from 5.42%.
The rates do not include add-on fees known as points. Thirty-year, 15-year and five-year mortgages each carried a nationwide average fee of 0.5 of a point. The one-year ARM carried an average fee of 0.7 of a point.
