Tree fight: An article in Monday’s California section about an Inyo County town’s fight to keep elm and sycamore trees from being cut down to make way for a road-widening project incorrectly attributed quotes to Caltrans’ District 9 director. The quotes, about weighing the effects of widening the highway, and the difficulty in coming to agreement with the residents of Independence about the project, were made by Bryan Winzenread, who is Caltrans District 9’s deputy district director for program project management and local assistance. The article also misspelled the last name of the District 9 director, Tom Hallenbeck, as Hollendeck.
