Skip the race reference
Re Don Heckman’s Playboy Jazz Festival preview (“Five Other Acts You Shouldn’t Miss”, June 14):
Hopefully, 20 years from now people will be surprised at the description of poor Chris Botti, about whom you wrote, “Don’t let his blond good looks fool you. Botti can play trumpet with a cool but passionate belief in the restorative powers of melody and rhythm.”
You don’t say. Amazing -- soulful, good-looking and white too?! Damn!
Can’t you please just let musicians do their thing without their race served up as an incredulous reference?
