WHAT’S AHEAD
Premieres, parties and awards, oh my! This week’s schedule is packed with festival fun, tributes and pretty significant honors.
THURSDAY: The American Film Institute honors “Volver” star Penelope Cruz at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome with a lively onstage chat, film clips and “surprise visits.”
FRIDAY: Digitally shot in Poland, “Inland Empire” will screen at the AFI Festival with a post-party in the Audi Pavilion. Look out for David Lynch, Laura Dern and Jeremy Irons. And try to solve the mystery, will ya?
SUNDAY: Don’t call it a premiere. Call it a “special screening” of Paramount Vantage’s “Babel” at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood. Brad Pitt is expected. So is Cate Blanchett and a “special guest” ... Angelina, maybe?
TUESDAY: The premiere of “The Dead Girl” at AFI’s fest in the ArcLight. Cast expected includes Josh Brolin, Toni Collette, James Franco, Marcia Gay Harden, Brittany Murphy and Giovanni Ribisi.
ALSO TUESDAY: Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations close at 5 p.m. For a full calendar of awards-related events go to TheEnvelope.com.
