From the Associated Press
Some 17,162 performances weren’t enough.
“The Fantasticks,” the longest-running musical, returns to New York this summer, opening Aug. 16 at the new Snapple Theater Center.
The original production of the show, which has book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, ran at the tiny Sullivan Street Playhouse in Greenwich Village from May 3, 1960, to Jan. 13, 2002. The story of young love and the loss of innocence features such songs as “Try to Remember,” “Much More” and “I Can See It.”
