From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured Monday when his motorcycle was rammed by a robbery suspect fleeing from a bank on Pacific Coast Highway, authorities said.
The deputy, whose name was not released, was chasing the suspect’s blue Honda when he was hit by the vehicle, said Sgt. John Hocking, a department spokesman.
The deputy, a 17-year veteran of the force, was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center and underwent surgery for spinal and internal injuries, said Deputy Rich Pena.
The deputy is expected to recover, Pena said.
