Three Arrested After Gunfire and Car Chase
Three men were arrested early Saturday after they fired on two sheriff’s deputies and then led them on a three-minute high-speed chase, police said.
The teenage suspects, who deputies say are gang members, were booked for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and evading arrest. They were being held at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s station in Lakewood, said Lt. Rick Nutt.
The incident occurred after deputies apparently interrupted a gang shooting at 1:30 a.m. near 167th Street and Clarksdale Avenue while on routine patrol, he said. A car passed in front of them and they saw two muzzle flashes and heard gunshots.
Deputies chased the car onto the 91 Freeway, then to the 605 Freeway, until the driver exited at South Street and crashed near Studebaker Road and Centralia Street, Nutt said.
