Clothes horses
A provocative conjunction of two Sunday Calendar articles of two paisans: Al Pacino and Gay Talese, and both known for their sartorial preferences -- Mr. Talese for “his elegant taste in fashion” (as Josh Getlin wrote) and Mr. Pacino for layered apparel (as reported by Christopher Reynolds) [“Stage, Screen, et Al,” and “So He Had the Story All Along,” April 23].
The Talese article was extremely illuminating regarding a writer’s craft and world. The Pacino article was disappointing inasmuch as readers were expecting an article about his craft. I musingly conjectured that Pacino’s layered clothes could have been aroused by his romance with Diane Keaton -- long known for her layered attire. Sparsely in the Reynolds five-days-on-the-scene coverage was there anything significant to match the poignant aesthetics present in the Getlin article.
