From Times Wire Reports

The mayor of Lynchburg pleaded not guilty to federal charges of stealing from a church charity to pay his debts and taking money from Social Security recipients.

Carl B. Hutcherson Jr., 61, remains free on bond and said after his arraignment: “I’m looking forward to my day in court.”

A seven-count indictment issued Dec. 1 accuses Hutcherson of fraud, lying to federal and bank officials, and obstruction of justice.
