Police released the names of a man fatally shot and another who was seriously injured during a confrontation with police Monday.

Police also said Tuesday that they had recovered a handgun from the truck the two men were in when they were shot, said Sgt. Rick Martinez, an Anaheim Police Department spokesman.

Frank Carillo, 28, of Santa Ana, died at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center on Monday afternoon after he was shot while in a pickup near Euclid Street and La Palma Avenue, Martinez said.

Carillo’s passenger, Oscar Mendez, 25, of Santa Ana was shot in the lower torso and remained hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is under investigation by Anaheim police and the Orange County district attorney’s office, which is routine in an officer-involved shooting.
