Animal Group Hires Firm to Protect Seals
From Times Staff Reports
An animal rights group has hired a security firm to protect the seals at the Children’s Pool in La Jolla, a beach where humans and seals have clashed.
Six seals reportedly have been injured since the City Council voted 5 to 3 last month to remove a barrier that kept humans from approaching the animals. Three seals have died under mysterious circumstances.
“The city of San Diego has demonstrated utter disregard for the welfare of the seals,” said Jill Fritz, president of San Diego Animal Advocates.
