Peak routes in ascending order

Climbing guidebooks keep getting better, and the primary reason is SuperTopo, started in 1999 by Chris McNamara, who wanted good information “so that I can focus on the climbing, not on whether I am off route.” Most of his guides are available in both conventional book form and as electronic books accessed on the Internet.

This Tahoe SuperTopo guide is jammed with more than 250 routes ranging in difficulty from 5.4 to 5.13c as well as excellent photos showing the lines of ascent, descriptions of approaches and descent routes and a history of the climbs. When he started the guides, McNamara said he was surprised how the climbing experience is enhanced by knowing the history of the climbs. McNamara turned to the master, Steve Roper, for the history of the most popular area in the region, Lover’s Leap. Roper wrote the first guide to the Leap in the first issue of Ascent in 1967.
