Lockyer Seeks Sempra Settlement on Pricing
California Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer said he was working to settle lawsuits with Sempra Energy, owner of the largest U.S. natural-gas utility, concerning claims that the company overcharged for electricity in 2000 and 2001.
Sempra may owe California $1 billion to $2 billion, Lockyer said. The amount that may be owed by Sempra because of alleged manipulation of natural-gas prices is in dispute, he said.
Sempra spokeswoman Jennifer Andrews said the company does not discuss settlement talks and declined to comment.
