Girl, 2, Drowns in Spa at Riverside Day-Care Center
A 2-year-old girl drowned in a hot tub at a Riverside day-care facility Monday, officials said.
Caretakers at the facility, Gonzalez Family Child Care, in the 6800 block of Holbrook Way, lost sight of the child momentarily and found her in the hot tub, said Riverside Police Sgt. Steve Johnson.
Authorities are not sure how long the child was in the water, Johnson said.
The day-care center was in a single-family home. A pool on the premises was gated, but the hot tub was not, Johnson said.
One of the caretakers, whose names were not released by authorities, pulled the girl from the hot tub while another called 911. Responding officers gave her CPR, but the girl died a short time later at Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center in Riverside.
Her name has not been released.
Police are still deciding whether to press charges against the operators of the day-care center, which is now closed, Johnson said.
State licensing officials have decided it will not reopen, Johnson said.
Three other children were in the home when the girl drowned.
