A Few Races to Watch
Besides the three graded stakes races at Hollywood Park and the Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs, there are several other interesting and important races being run around the country.
Dynever will try to rebound from a disappointing effort in the Pimlico Special in the $250,000 Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont Park, while Adoration will have a new rider in the $400,000 Fleur De Lis Handicap at Churchill Downs.
Dynever, a 4-year-old Dyanformer colt trained by Christophe Clement for owners Peter Karches and Catherine Willis, was fifth as the 17-10 choice in the Pimlico Special.
Plagued by sore feet after the May 14 race, Dynever has returned to train well. He’ll be opposed by Seattle Fitz, Newfoundland, Congrats, Gander, Country Be Gold and Angelic Aura in the Brooklyn, a Grade II at 1 1/8 miles.
Victor Espinoza will ride Adoration for the first time, replacing Mike Smith. The winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff, the 5-year-old Honor Grades mare will break from the rail in the Fleur De Lis, a Grade II at 1 1/8 miles.
Race of the day: Pollard’s Vision, who won the Illinois Derby before finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby, is among nine 3-year-olds scheduled to run 1 1/8 miles in the $350,000 Ohio Derby at Thistledown.
One for the road: Cap makes his first start for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. and gets a boost in class in today’s fifth at Belmont, a $35,000 claimer at 1 1/8 miles on the turf.
Exotically speaking: The NTRA national pick four using Dynever in the Brooklyn Handicap; Adoration, Yell and Mayo On The Side in the Fleur De Lis; Southern Image and Perfect Drift in the Stephen Foster; and Musical Chimes, Bayamo, Continuously and Gassan Royal in the Whittingham.
Winners (through Thursday): Previous day/meet total: 3/82. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.40/$458.80. Total money bet: $638.
