Wayward Sea Lion Has Bullet in Head, Rescue Officials Say
SAUSALITO, Calif. — A bullet has been found lodged in the head of a sea lion discovered flopping along a San Joaquin Valley road some 60 miles from the ocean.
The 300-pound male sea lion found Monday may have been disoriented because of the bullet, animal rescue personnel said.
“We don’t know how recently this happened,” said Cynthia Schramm, spokeswoman for the Marine Mammal Center. “He looks good. He’s not malnourished, so he’s obviously been feeding. It hasn’t incapacitated him to this point.”
Schramm said the sea lion would remain under observation in captivity for at least a week.
