Defects Found in 10% of the Big Dig’s Panels
From Times Wire Reports
Investigators checking wall panels in the Big Dig’s interstate tunnel under Boston have found potential defects in more than 10% of panels inspected so far, officials said.
The inspections began after an 8-inch breach in one tunnel panel in September sent water gushing onto the roadway, causing a 10-mile traffic backup.
The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority said it intended to sue the consortium that managed the Big Dig, seeking to recover $100 million for design errors and construction mistakes.
