Warner’s Wife Is Talking Trade

The wife of benched St. Louis Ram quarterback Kurt Warner sounded off again Monday, saying in a radio interview that a trade would be welcomed after the season if the situation stayed the same.

Last season, Brenda Warner called a radio show to complain that she -- and not Coach Mike Martz -- had suggested that the two-time most valuable player have his injured hand X-rayed. The X-ray revealed a broken hand that Warner had been playing with.

On Monday, Brenda Warner told “Steve and D.C.” on The Mall that her husband wouldn’t mind changing teams.

“Probably, just from the point that we want to play, he wants to play, plain and simple,” Brenda Warner said. “So, if he’s not going to play here, then he wants to play somewhere.

“You just want to be wanted, like anybody, whether you’re a D.J. or whatever you do.”

David Boston stood in front of reporters and apologized for the behavior that got him suspended for a game by San Diego Charger Coach Marty Schottenheimer.

With the consent of the organization, he refused to take questions.

“First of all, I want to apologize to my teammates, the organization and the fans for not being able to participate in this Sunday’s game,” Boston said. “I’m anxious to get out on the football field this week. I know I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the past and I’ve learned from them and I’m moving on.”

Jacksonville wide receiver Jimmy Smith was one of five suspended players reinstated by the NFL after violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Smith sat out four games after testing positive for cocaine.

Also reinstated were Denver safety Lee Flowers (ephedra), New England running back Mike Cloud (nandrolone) and Atlanta linebacker Keith Newman (steroids). Minnesota tight end Byron Chamberlain (ephedra) was reinstated but subsequently released.

The Minnesota Vikings will decide later this week whether Daunte Culpepper’s back has healed enough for him to return as the starting quarterback. Minnesota (4-0) plays at Atlanta this Sunday and has a bye the next weekend.... Cincinnati Bengal running back Corey Dillon is expected to sit out next weekend’s game at Buffalo because of a strained groin.... Jason Sehorn, out since late July because of a broken left foot, is expected to start at free safety for the Rams when they return from their bye week Oct. 13.... Tennessee Titan linebacker Peter Sirmon was released from a Pittsburgh hospital and flew home Monday. He broke two small bones in his back Sunday against the Steelers and could be out two to four weeks.... All-Pro cornerback Troy Vincent could sit out the Philadelphia Eagles’ game Sunday against Washington because of a strained hamstring suffered against Buffalo over the weekend.
