Only in Southern California would a paper such as The Times need to print a how-to guide to hockey -- at the end of the season! The how-to came with obligatory attempts to describe the rules, the gear (including the intricacies of the skate, riveting) and explanations of the infractions the guys with the orange armbands are calling. I’m surprised there wasn’t a graphic showing a player shooting a puck into a net with the caption, “When this happens, your team gets a point!”
Good luck, Ducks; The Times did its part to help your many newfound fans understand what you’re doing, and all without having to use a glowing puck.

While the Mighty Ducks play in the Stanley Cup finals, Dave Taylor announces that the Kings have signed the human sieve, Roman Cechmanek, as his new goalie. Guess Dave didn’t watch the Flyers’ playoff series this year. Keep up the good work, Dave. Any more deals like this and you’ll really make Los Angeles the biggest joke of the NHL.

I just received my Kings’ season-ticket renewal pack and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the “generous” discount the organization promised for each seat held. All I can say is if my $94 will ensure me the Kings will not re-sign Luc Robitaille in the off-season, they’re more than welcome to keep it.
